Flames Boast Strong Showing At Early Bird Tournament

Early Birds are a sure sign of...Fall. Yes, the hockey season officially got under way with the opening of Early Bird Tournaments across the city. The Flames had a particularly strong showing at the Brian Steele Tournament, hosted by the Hillcrest Canadiens.

Early Bird tournaments are a great way for a team to bond, to get acquainted with new players and reconnect with returning veterans. But for young and/or considerably re-vamped teams, they give coaches and parents a highly anticipated for look at how they might stack up in the season ahead.

Leaside teams faired well, beginning with our youngest entrants. The Minor Atom A (pictured above) team swept aside all comers to take the Championship, defeating an overmatched Caledon team 5-1 in the Final. The Minor Bantam AA team also claimed the crown, sneaking past a solid Vaughan Panthers squad 2-1. The Atom AA competed in the Final against a powerful Gerogina Blaze outfit, eventually falling 5-3 to finish as Runner-Ups.
