LEASIDE SELECT – 2013/2014 SEASON

Leaside’s “Select” hockey program is a great balance of community House League play, with the added element of advanced coaching, team management, additional practices and competitive play with other teams in the GTA*.   

We continue to look for and welcome new (and returning!) interest in new players to our Select and House League programs!

TRYOUTS for all Leaside Select teams of the 2013/2014 season will be held after labour-day (September)
as in previous seasons.  Please see the TRYOUT link to the left for more information.

Select players are drawn from the Leaside House League program and compete against other “Select” teams within the NYHL*. 

Individuals who make a Select team play (a) their one House League game⁺ per week; (b) approx one additional “Select” game per week and (c) attend a one Select practice weekly.   (⁺Note: Tykes and Minor Novice have Hockey Skills development (not games).  In addition, Select teams usually participate in a number of tournaments each season – a great way for kids and families bond and experience a team weekend event. 

Some quick notes about Leaside’s Select Program:

• We currently field 19 Select teams (incl. 3 teams at TYKE, MIN-NOVICE, NOVICE;  2 teams at MINOR ATOM AND ATOM)

• We expect to feild the same for next year PLUS a 2nd (new) team at Minor Pee Wee (2002) and Midget Senior (1996)

• The 2013-2014 season will commence in late-September/early-October 2013

• Tryouts for Select start early-to-mid September.  Dates for this will be posted on this website in August. 

• Select players must register for – and participate in - the LHA House League program

• The focus of our Select program is on GREAT COACHING and GREAT TEAM MANAGEMENT.  From these two foundations come great teams, great hockey and great hockey players

• We strive to provide a POSITIVE and PROFESSIONAL environment for everyone involved -> players, parents and teams (especially)

• *Leaside Select teams compete in the North York Hockey League (www.nyhl.on.ca).  There are 32 hockey Associations/organisations (like Leaside) within the NYHL
