Call for Volunteers - House League Trainers

The Leaside Hockey Association (LHA) is looking for volunteers to serve as House League (HL) Trainers for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
This is a great way to obtain your Trainer certification (valid for 3 years) at no cost. Yes, the LHA will cover the certification fee for HL Trainers! 🙌
What's different about HL Trainers?
- Multiple children playing HL? You can volunteer across all their teams.
- The GTHL requires one Trainer per HL game - so HL Trainers don't have attend all games.
- Flexible scheduling - work with the HL Convenor to volunteer for games that fit your schedule.
- Over 16 and looking for volunteer hours? Get trained for free and volunteer for games throughout the season!
📌 PLEASE NOTE
LHA reimbursement for the GTHL Trainer Course or Recertification Course must be approved before the course is taken and will only be provided to individuals volunteering to help as a House League Trainers.
Please reach out to Emily at hlcoordinator@leasidehockey.com for more details or to volunteer.
Bench Staff - Please Complete VSC for 2025-26

LHA Team Officials, Coaches & Skills Staff —
It’s time to complete your Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)!
If you’re working with children on behalf of the LHA — including coaches, trainers, managers, skills coaches, and on-ice volunteers — a current VSC is required.
Here’s what you need to know:
- A full VSC is required every 3 years (⚠️ It can take 6–8 weeks to process!)
- OHF Screening Declaration is required every year via the OHF Submission Portal
- The portal is now open for the 2025–2026 season
- Start here: https://www.ohf.on.ca/risk-management/vulnerable-sector-checks-vsc/
IMPORTANT: You won’t be added to a team roster until your VSC is complete!
📩 Questions? Please reach out to screening@ohf.on.ca
Thank you for helping us keep community hockey safe. ❤️🔥

The Women on the LHA Bench

The LHA is extremely proud of the growing number of women volunteering to be part of the bench staff for our competitive teams. Whether a head coach, assistant coach or trainer, these women are playing a vital part in their child's, and the whole team's, hockey experience.
Click HERE or on the button below to meet some of the women on the LHA bench and learn more about what inspired them to join the bench staff and what they enjoy most about the experience.
If you are interested in being more involved in your child's hockey experience, please speak to your Head Coach or program coordinator about upcoming opportunities.

NHL/NHLPA First Shift Returns to Leaside

Thank you to everyone who participated in this season's First Shift Program at Leaside Arena. First Shift is a program designed by the NHL and the NHL Players Association to ensure a positive experience for new-to-hockey families. Every effort is made to create a lasting love for hockey by:
- taking away any intimidation as it relates to equipment requirements, and/or rules of the game,
- removing potential safety concerns, and most importantly,
- providing an experience that is memorable and FUN.
Accessible, Affordable, Safe and FUN are the goals of the First Start Program.
It was another great season and we were particularly pleased to have so many volunteers from our U15 - U18 Select & GTHL teams help give new players such a positive experience. See you next season!
LHA Goalie Training

Our goalie training is now complete for the 2024-25 season! Thank you to everyone who participated.
Check back in September for info on the 2025/26 Season!
This is a popular program that is available FREE to anyone in the LHA. Run by the professionals at Direct Motion Goaltending, these sessions are perfect for goalies of all skill levels from a HL player playing net for the first time to an experienced GTHL goaltender looking to improve.
During the season, goalies register in advance and attend in full goalie gear which can be accessed from the LHA if necessary. Goalies are grouped by age and ability and rotate through skill stations with a ratio of one coach for every three (3) goalies.
The Leaside Hockey Association, the GTHL, and Hockey Canada stand for a safe sport that is free of maltreatment of any kind. For more information on Hockey Canada's Independent Third Party (ITP) complaint mechanism, or to submit a claim, please click HERE.
