Mike Piotrowski: Winner of the LHA’s 2020-21 Jeff Munn Volunteer of the Year Award

Mike has been coaching with Leaside for more than a decade.  He is currently the head coach of the 2003 Red Select Team as well as the 2004 Red Select Team and a House League Coach. Mike is a great example of a volunteer that lives our Leaside values of striking the right balance of driving a competitive team and ensuring everyone is having a fun time along the way.  This includes parents and players. Mike has instilled in his players a competitive spirit, patience and positivity with a focus on teamwork and fair play. He has an amazing ability to build confidence and bring out the best in every player in an encouraging style. 

Over the years, Mike was able to build skills and even more importantly build passion and maturity into his athletes in order to play as a unit where his players cared for their teammates and the team as a whole. Many of the players and parents who were fortunate to be on Mike’s team summed it up best by describing Mike as “a very positive and inspirational motivator on and off the ice”.  He created a true community team with the focus of trying your hardest and doing your best.
