About CDS Hockey

Competitive Development Stream (CDS) hockey gives our youngest players their first opportunity to expand their hockey school or house league experience by playing on a team that competes against other clubs.

LHA Hockey School or House League players wishing to be part of CDS take part in a series of evaluations in the fall in order to be placed on a team with players of a similar skill level. Games in CDS follow the Ontario Hockey Federation Player Development Model designed to develop both age-appropriate hockey skills and a lifelong love for the game. CDS games follow specific Rules and Gameplay that differ by age.

CDS players continue to be an active part of our Hockey School (U7 &U8) and House League (U9) programs. CDS is an additional commitment of time and cost as players enjoy additional practices and games each week with their CDS team. Each CDS team is supported by a professional instructor who assists with the coaching plan, runs periodic practices and mentors the parents, who have volunteered, to help them become more effective team officials.

Each year, the LHA hosts the Leaside Invitational Tournament. With more than 100 teams and 1,900 players, this is a season highlight for everyone in our CDS program.

Our CDS teams compete in the Competitive Development Stream League. With about 44 teams across the three age groups, CDS gives teams an opportunity to play hockey close to home. CDS is sanctioned by the GTHL, which is one of seven (7) member organizations of the Ontario Hockey Federation.
